A will that reflects who you actually are
Why it matters
Without a will, the intestacy rules decide who inherits. Those rules are blunt: they favour spouses over unmarried partners, ignore stepchildren, and split estates in ways almost no family would choose.
With an out-of-date or template will, the outcome can be worse — because the document appears to have done a job it hasn't.
How it works
A proper will names your executors, appoints guardians for minor children, deals with specific gifts, and sets out how the residue passes. Where the estate is large enough to expose IHT, the will is drafted to use both nil-rate bands, capture the Residence Nil-Rate Band where possible, and create trusts on death where they add protection.
Who it suits
Anyone with children, a partner, property, a business, a pension, or a preference about who inherits what. Which, in practice, is everyone.
