Equity Release
You're looking for help with Equity Release - you're in the right place. Equity release is certainly not the right solution for everyone. However, used in the right circumstances, and done correctly, it can be an effective way to preserve and protect your estate whilst enabling you to release much needed funds that are otherwise locked away in the value of your property.
The cost of getting this wrong
Equity release is one of the most powerful tools in later-life planning - and one of the easiest to misuse. The wrong product, on the wrong house, at the wrong age, can quietly consume the inheritance you spent forty years building.
Compounding interest at 6–7% on a lifetime mortgage doubles the debt roughly every eleven years. Released at 65 and untouched, a £100,000 lump sum can owe £400,000 by 87 - drawn from the property value before a single penny reaches your beneficiaries.
It is also rarely the only option. Downsizing, re-mortgaging, drawing from pensions in a different order, or restructuring assets through a trust frequently delivers the same income with a fraction of the long-term cost. None of these alternatives appear on a price-comparison site.
Used correctly, equity release can preserve a home, fund care, and gift early to children inside a clear IHT plan. Used as a default, it transfers your estate to a lender. The difference is the advice that sits around it.
Why Is Equity Release Useful?
You can protect the inheritance for your family.
You can stay in the comfort of your beloved home without having to make any sacrifices, such as the stress and strain of moving in order to downsize.
What Are the Alternatives to Equity Release?
Equity release is not always the best solution. Alternatives can be to simply re-mortgage, or sell your property to downsize or rent.
